Our commitment
WCAG 2.1 AA1. The goal
Everyone who visits smallpetcarriers.com should be able to research, size, and request a quote for a small-pet carrier — including people who use screen readers, screen magnifiers, keyboard-only navigation, voice control, or other assistive technology.
2. The standard we aim for
We work toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — a widely used, independent set of guidelines for making websites usable by people with disabilities.
3. Ongoing work
Accessibility is not a one-time project. We check it as the site changes, and when something falls short we treat it as a bug to fix. If a page blocks you, tell us and we will fix it or find a workaround.
What we do today
IN PLACE NOW1. Structure & text
Pages use proper headings in order, so screen-reader users can jump straight to a section. Photos carry alt text that describes what they show. Text never drops below 10px, including the small monospaced labels, and headings use balanced wrapping so lines break in sensible places.
2. Keyboard & focus
Every control on the site — navigation, buttons, forms, sliders — can be reached and used with a keyboard alone. A visible focus ring shows exactly where you are on the page as you tab.
3. Live readouts
The Fit Guide and the quote form announce their results through live regions (aria-live), so screen-reader users hear the same sizing readouts and form feedback that sighted users see. The Fit Guide's weight slider runs entirely in your browser, so it answers instantly.
4. Reduced motion
If your device is set to reduce motion, the site honors that everywhere: page reveal animations, the scrolling marquee, and the 3D carrier stage all switch to still or instant versions.
Known limitations
HONEST NOTES1. The 3D carrier stage
The interactive 3D carrier on the home page is decorative — it shows the shells but adds no information of its own. The same sizing details appear in the size chips and the text readout beside it, and in full on the carriers page and the Fit Guide. If you navigate by keyboard or screen reader, you miss nothing essential.
2. Desktop-first design
The site was designed desktop-first. Mobile layouts work, and they are continually improving — but if a page is awkward at your screen size or zoom level, that is our problem to fix, not yours. Tell us and we will look at it.
